Created as an interactive sculpture specifically to involve children in the festival, Baby Dazy swims around Bond Lake in Cary, NC during the annual Spring Daze Arts and Crafts Festival. Carved out of layers of Styrofoam, covered with stretch knit fabric, and spouting horns and teeth, this small dragon sculpture can swim in lthe ake or rest on the dock for the enjoyment of children.  Directed through a hand held device by someone on shore, the floating baby dragon is manipulated via movable underwater propellers. In one picture, she comes up to the dock where young children stretch out their hands through the railing in order to interact with her.

A perfect opportunity for parents to take photos of their children, a young girl with a smiling painted face is shown riding Baby Daze as she rests on the dock. A small fire extinguisher is hidden inside the body, so when the artist pushes a button, smoke shoots out of her mouth, surprising and enlivening the children’s interaction with Baby Dazy.  Another picture shows four of the artist’s grand nieces and nephew riding Baby Dazy outside the Legacyworks studio in Warrenton, NC.

"My sculptural environments are aesthetically pleasing site-specific artworks that connect nature and culture by employing the three legacies for regenerative and sustainable design of (1) environment: natural systems, (2) education: experiential systems, and (3) engagement: cultural systems. By using a variety of art media and fabrication methods to create sculptural open spaces that are intended to support personal rejuvenation and inspiration, my sculptures provide venues for environmental learning and community celebration.”
