Created and installed by Legacyworks Studio, this temporary environmental sculpture, consisting of 100 – 20 ft long bamboo culms harvested from the artist’s Warrenton, NC bamboo grove, was installed with the help of local youth groups along one of the bends in the raised wooden walkway of this segment of Raleigh’s Greenway Trails as a feature for the one day Festival in Motion event.  Employing recycled craft-type materials, festival attendees were encouraged with the help of staff volunteers to create their own versions of a dragonfly (also know as a darning needle) and to attach them to the bamboo arch structure. The creative value of connecting these pollinators to the Walnut Creek Wetland Park was educational for all.

"My sculptural environments are aesthetically pleasing site-specific artworks that connect nature and culture by employing the three legacies for regenerative and sustainable design of (1) environment: natural systems, (2) education: experiential systems, and (3) engagement: cultural systems. By using a variety of art media and fabrication methods to create sculptural open spaces that are intended to support personal rejuvenation and inspiration, my sculptures provide venues for environmental learning and community celebration.”
