This specific artwork was installed in completion of a promise made by the artist during an art installation on the Island of Syros, Greece in which the winds were abated in order to install the artwork. In conjunction with the gallery exhibition of Layne’s drawings and paintings and a simultaneous indoor installation and performance piece titled Homage to Poseidon, this archway installation met the stringent demands required of affixing an artwork to a Boston historic building.
Held in place by an arched PVC structure, the cone shaped fabric form was inflated using a household fan,. An internal color wheel allowed the white fabric form to emit a variety of colors during the nighttime installation. The form acted like a Chinese lantern, illuminating the whole Boston, Center for the Arts plaza. Making the installation their-own, local high school students used this arching environment as a meeting place and individually protected the artwork from street vandalism during its month-long installation.

"My sculptural environments are aesthetically pleasing site-specific artworks that connect nature and culture by employing the three legacies for regenerative and sustainable design of (1) environment: natural systems, (2) education: experiential systems, and (3) engagement: cultural systems. By using a variety of art media and fabrication methods to create sculptural open spaces that are intended to support personal rejuvenation and inspiration, my sculptures provide venues for environmental learning and community celebration.”
